Velvet: Contemporary Istanbul

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fabian Hofmann (Schallplae) and I realized the Contemporary Istanbul art fair using Unity Game Engine as a fully walkable WebGL application. Visitors explored the halls from a first-person perspective directly in the browser, while gallerists could independently upload their images, videos, and 3D sculptures through an external backend. The exhibition halls dynamically expanded based on the number of submitted artworks. This project marked the beginning of my freelance career.
Ansvarsområden
- •Setup of all 3D scenes including light baking and occlusion culling
- •Implementation of complete game logic in C# (asset loader, FPS controller, UI events)
- •Development of bidirectional REST API including JSON schema for runtime import of images, videos, and GLB/OBJ sculptures
- •JavaScript interop for live control within the embedded WebGL canvas (hotspots, language, teleport)
- •Performance optimization: draw call reduction, texture streaming, asset bundles, LODs
